Committed to the continued investment in South Africa’s development, a percentage of sales from Legacy Collection go towards sustainable development projects. Charmaine is passionate about skills development and education so she has chosen the below two organisations to give back to:
Abalimi assists individuals, groups and community-based organisations to initiate and maintain permanent organic food growing and nature conservation projects as the basis for sustainable lifestyles, self-help job creation, poverty alleviation and environmental renewal.
They provide training, resources and ongoing support to enable the urban poor to obtain employment or become self-employed as gardeners, gardening assistants and urban micro-farmers. By developing community and home gardens, it helps to create and maintain green spaces within the Cape Flats environment.
Originally established in 2008 with the aim of providing market access to farmers who wanted to sell surplus veggies. HOH started marketing veggies from farmers in the townships long before anybody else was doing it. What started as a humble offering to school communities, grew to a shift in the market and encouraged other organizations to buy vegetables from the townships.
